IPL Match 20: Mumbai Indians (MI) overcome Rajasthan Royals (RR) jinx to defeat them by 57 runs

Mumbai Indians (MI) finally defeat Rajasthan Royals (RR) after 2 years but in style. With this win, MI tops the IPL table and should remain there unless and until DC wins their next match.

Match Score

1st Innings: Mumbai Indians(MI): 193/4 (20 overs)

2nd Innings: Rajasthan Royals (RR): 136 (18.1 overs)

The openers of MI gave them a decent start, they scored 49 runs together before Q de Kock got out. R Sharma and S Yadav built another small partnership of 39 for the second wicket. I Kishan and K Pandya followed R Sharma to the pavilion in the span of 5 overs. H Pandya walked in to bat for MI at the team score of 117/4. Thereafter no more wickets fell, S Yadav and H Pandya hammered RR bowlers around to help their team post the total of 193. Amongst RR Bowlers, R Tewatia and S Gopal were the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, RR lost their first three wickets within 3 overs bowled. The youngster Jaiswal was removed for a duck by Boult, followed by Smith's wicket by Bumrah and Samson's wicket by Boult. J Buttler like in previous games against MI played excellently but kept losing partners at the other end. He was driving RR single-handedly, so much so that when he got out for the score of 70 his team's score was 98 i.e. 71% of the teams total score. RR team never recovered thereafter. MI bowlers were exceptional on the day especially J Bumrah who picked up 4 wickets and gave away only 20 runs in his 4 overs.

Player of the Match

Suryakumar Yadav was declared Man of the match for his splendid innings of 79 not out.

Captain's Corner

S Smith:

It is a little shocking to see that S Smith is not using R Tewatia as much as he should. He was the most economical bowler for RR in the match but he bowled only 2 overs.

Rohit Sharma:

The decision to promote K Pandya didn't work but the logic behind that decision made a lot of sense especially with the way he played against SRH. Apart from pushing him to bat up because of form him playing above H Pandya and Pollard gives him a good match practice as well. While bowling, like always R Sharma was masterful with his changes.

This match was outright dominance of MI over RR. The MI avenged their losses against RR for two years with a massive win. RR has got to find ways to get their middle order going.
