DC VS MI Dream11 Team, Probable Playing XI, Toss, Pitch and Match Preview: Last season’s finalist lock horns in match no 13 of the Vivo IPL 2021, in Chennai.
The Big Picture
Both sides feel confident after winning 2 out of 3 matches so far. Mumbai Indians have successfully defended low scores and Delhi Capitals have chased down big scores. What matters here is, Mumbai are playing their fourth consecutive match in Chennai, whereas Delhi play their first match in Chennai. These are completely different conditions for DC, they played their last match on Sunday in Mumbai. Unfortunately, they have not had sufficient time to acclimatise to the conditions in Chennai. Overall, the two teams have competed 28 times, MI have won 16 matches, whereas DC have won 12. While gauging last five years performances, there have been total 12 matches in which MI have won 8 and DC has won 4.
Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals have been habitual of great starts from Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan. The two openers have collectively added 292 runs in three matches. This includes a 138 and 59 run partnership. Mostly all DC batsman rely on timing except Rishabh Pant who is unconventional and Marcus Stoinis who muscles the ball for quick scoring. The Chepauk wicket can be tricky for such players due to lack of pace. DC needs to adapt quickly to the situation as their opponents can be brutal, as in a T20 game there is less time to recover from a damaged situation.
Mumbai Indians
The current Champions walk in as favourites; not because they have accessed the situation well, MI have lately dominated the fixture. The two sides competed four times last season and MI brutally hammered DC which includes the Qualifier and the Final of IPL 2020. Mumbai Indians have their own challenges which they need to overcome. Suryakumar Yadav’s fifty run knock is the highest score by MI batsman so far this season. No other batsman has crossed the fifty-run mark. MI’s Head coach Mahila Jayawardhane confirmed that Hardik Pandya remains unavailable as a bowler until his niggle cools off. To fit in Jayant Yadav MI might play only 3 Overseas players.
Pitch Conditions and Toss
RCB surprised everyone with a 200+ score in their last game against KKR in Chennai. The wicket however will continue to offer a good contest between bat and ball. Spinners will be difficult to score off, whereas fast bowlers who can offer variations can prove clinical. 165 seems to be a par score. Despite of the dew factor, side winning the toss will bat first. The wicket seems to slow down as the match progresses. MI have successfully defended moderate totals in the last two matches.

DC vs MI Dream11 Wicketkeepers
Rishabh Pant is the only wicket-keeper batsman in my side. Since 2016 Pant has scored 3 fifties and 3 forty plus scores against MI. I have dropped Ishan Kishan for his poor run in the 2021 edition of the IPL. Since 2018, Ashwin has dismissed de Kock 4 times and has conceded 74 runs.
DC vs MI Dream11 Batsman
Suryakumar Yadav and Shikhar Dhawan are my obvious choices, both batsmen have the qualities and capabilities of analysing and adapting to the situation. The two top order batsmen also have much needed experience and temperament of playing the waiting game. It is difficult for batsmen to get going right from the beginning. Rohit Sharma is the third batsman in my side, Sharma usually likes to utilise the pace of the ball, but he has already adapted well on the Chepauk wicket. I have selected him over Prithvi Shaw as I feel Shaw might struggle with on a slow and sluggish wicket.
DC vs MI Dream11 All-Rounders
Chris Woakes is my first-choice all-rounder of the fixture. Woakes has picked up 5 wickets so far at a strike rate of 13.20. The English bowler gets an opportunity to pair up with the likes of Rabada to bowl during the death overs. His accuracy and pace make him a lethal bowler during the death overs. Krunal Pandya is the second all-rounder in my side. Since 2016 Krunal Pandya has scored 249 runs against Delhi at a strike rate of 175.35. Pandya has also been effective with the bowl at Chepauk this season, having picked up 3 wickets with an economy of 6.18 per over.
DC vs MI Dream11 Bowlers
Since its difficult to score runs due to the slowness of the wicket I have invested heavily in the bowling department. Rahul Chahar has come back strong after a dreadful match against RCB. Chahar has picked up 7 wickets at an astonishing strike rate of 10.28. Avesh Khan is my second-choice bowler. The Indore lad has been bowling quick and has been on the target. In 3 matches Khan has picked up 6 wickets at a strike rate of 12. Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah complement each other well, especially during death overs. They hunt in pairs and make life difficult for the batsmen. The MI duo has collectively picked up 9 wickets at an economy rate of 5.9. Ravichandran Ashwin the fifth bowler in my squad, Ashwin plays his domestic cricket in Chennai, more importantly I feel this wicket is tailor made for him. Ashwin will open the innings with the ball against de Kock.
DC vs MI Dream11 Captain & Vice-Captain
Captain: Trent Boult and Rvichandran Ashwin
Vice-Captain: Deepak Chahar and Krunal Pandya
