CSK vs RR Dream11 Team, Probable Playing XI, Toss, Pitch and Match Preview: Chennai Super Kings lock horns with Rajasthan Royals in the 12th Match of the Indian Premier League in Mumbai.
The Big Picture
Lately the two teams have lacked consistency, last season CSK and RR shared the bottom two spots on the table. It has been a complete turnaround for CSK, for a team who has competed in 8 IPL finals. RR continue to be the dark horse in the title race. After winning their second games both sides look to carry on with the winning momentum. Since the inception of IPL, the two sides have competed 23 times. CSK have had an upper hand with 14 wins, whereas RR have won it on 9 occasions.
Chennai Super Kings
With Shardul Thakur coming into bat at no.10 CSK bat deeper than any other team in the IPL. However, apart from Moeen Ali the strike rate of their top 5 batsman is below 140. RR right now have a combination of 3 left arm seam bowlers, which seems to be less effective against the likes of MS Dhoni, Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja. Against left-arm seamers Dhoni has scored 138 runs of 70 balls, Curran 71 of 28 balls and Jadeja has smoked 75 of 35 balls. CSK might bring in Imran Tahir as he has an excellent record against Samson and Butler. Tahir has dismissed the RR duo on 5 times in the last 3 seasons.
After Ben Stokes being ruled out due to injury, Jos Butler has added responsibilities on his shoulder as a senior overseas player. In the last 5 innings Butler has scored 216 runs against CSK at an average of 72 and a strike rate of 152.11. Butler’s contributions include two unbeaten half-centuries. Chris Morris has had an upper hand over his country man Faf du Plessis whenever they have competed in the IPL. Morris has dismissed du Plessis 4 times and has conceded 49 runs of 36 balls. A rejuvenated Miller is riding high on confidence after a match winning knock in the last game.
Pitch Condition and Toss
The surface seems to be a delta to bat on. However, bowlers who can offer variations can enjoy success. Team winning the toss will again opt to field and utilize the dew advantage.

CSK vs RR Dream11 Wicket-keepers
Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson are my obvious choices for the form they have been in. Samson missed out on the last game but played an extra-ordinary knock in the season opener for RR. I have left out MS Dhoni due to his current form despite of his competent record against RR.
CSK vs RR Dream11 Batsmen
David Miller and Suresh Raina are my choice batsmen in the squad. Miller for his match winning knock against Delhi Capitals and Suresh Raina has scored 138 runs in his last 4 innings against RR which include 1 fifty and 2 forty plus scores. I aim to have equal number of front line batsmen from both sides so the other two batsman I have selected are Ambati Rayudu an Faf du Plessis. I have selected these two over Ruturaj Gaikwad and Manan Vohra due to their poor run the tournament so far.
CSK vs RR Dream11 All-Rounders
Chris Morris who played a mind-blowing knock to win it for the RR’s against DC is my first-choice. Morris also is a death over bowler who promises wickets. Moeen Ali who is CSK top run scorer is an obvious choice for me. Ali has not only scored quick runs for CSK but also has pick up important wickets.
CSK vs RR Dream11 Bowlers
Jaydev Unadkat and Deepak Chahar had excellent outings in their respective matches. Both picked up 3 wickets in the power play. Just in case Unadkat is dropped to bring in more variation to the bowling unit I will replace him with Mustafizur Rehman or Shardul Thakur. Young gun Chetan Sakariya is my third bowler who has impressed in the first two matches and can pick up wickets during death overs.
CSK vs RR Dream11 Captain and Vice-Captain
Captain: Jos Butler and Suresh Raina
Vice-Captain: Chris Morris and Moeen Ali
