Vivo IPL Match 42 PBKS vs MI: Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians Match Preview
PBKS vs MI Dream11 Team, Probable Playing Xi, Toss, Pitch and Match Preview: The struggling Five time champions Mumbai take on the relieved Punjab in the 42nd match of IPL 2021 in Abu Dhabi
The Big Picture
This match is of utmost importance for both the teams, 4 teams this year have same points after 10 matches each, KKR, PBKS, RR & MI with the net run rate of +0.322, -0.271, -0.369 & - 0.551 respectively (teams are placed on the points table depending on the NRR, with the team with best NRR being 4th, in this case KKR, followed by the rest). This is the second match of the day and the order and points might change after the conclusion of first match between KKR & DC. Mumbai Indians usually performs well in do or die situations and last year Punjab too went on a 4 match winning run while their chips were down. The Head-2-Head between these two teams is almost even with MI winning 14 out of the 27 games played amongst these two teams. In the last 5 matches that includes the 1st leg match which Punjab won, PBKS have won 3 out of the 5 games played.
Punjab would be a confident team after the previous game mainly because their bowlers won the game for them against SRH. Usually, their batsmen do the job and bowlers collectively fail to perform but it was the reverse case in the previous match. The good thing for Punjab is that the bulk of the scoring is done by their opening batsmen KL Rahul & M Agarwal, although, this very fact turns out to be the bad thing as well because whenever they fail to perform their batting collapses. M Shami & A Singh bowled exceptionally well in the previous two matches picking up 5 & 6 wickets respectively. When it comes to spinners, H Brar and R Bishnoi have been very economical with an economy of 5.75 and 6.15 respectively. Overall, Punjab can be termed a slight favourite in today’s encounter.
Mumbai has been struggling in UAE this year; they have lost all the matches played in the second leg of IPL. Mumbai Indians is known for their explosive Middle & Lower-Middle-Order but this year in UAE they haven’t been able to replicate what they have done in the past. The good thing for MI camp is that Rohit and Q de Kock are in decent touch and if their middle-order which comprises of S Yadav, I Kishan & H Pandya start to fire again they can become extremely dangerous. When it comes to their bowling, J Bumrah (13 W) and R Chahar (12 W) have picked up maximum wickets for them.
Pitch Conditions and Toss
On this ground, sides batting second have won 3 out of the 4 matches this year. The pitch does provide help to the spinners as well as seamers. In total, 39 wickets are fallen out of which spinners took 16 wickets whereas seamers have taken 23 wickets. The Average 1st inning score here is 143 this year but if we remove RCB’s debacle versus KKR average runs shoot up to 155. This means unless anything drastic happens team batting first should be around 155 to 175.

PK vs MI Dream11 Wicket Keeper
KL Rahul will be the first choice wicket-keeper. KL Rahul has been in an explicit form for the past two seasons for PK. Since 2018, Rahul has scored 443 runs against MI at a strike rate of 137.15 which includes one century, and four 60+ scores. Q de Kock should also be picked based on his recent form for his batting.
PK vs MI Dream11 Batsmen
M Agarwal and Rohit Sharma should be the first choice openers based on the form they are in. The other batsmen that could play a major role in this match are S Yadav, N Pooran and C Gayle. It is high time S Yadav gets back into form, C Gayle and C Pooran are both dangerous batsmen hence should be considered for selection. The Big player though could be K Pollard as he is no more considered as an all-rounder in dream11, he is a big match player and more importantly, he has a tremendous strike rate against PBKS. Since 2018 against PBKS, Pollard has scored 237 runs off 109 balls at a humungous strike rate of 217.4.
PK vs MI Dream11 All-Rounder’s
When it comes to all-rounder’s K Pandya & D Hooda be the first choice players. H Pandya doesn’t ball these days and has just returned from injury so it would be tricky to select Hardik over the other two players based on his all-rounder capabilities.
PK vs MI Dream11 Bowlers
J Bumrah, M Shami, A Singh should be the top 3 bowlers followed by T Boult, R Bishnoi, A Milne and H Brar depending on the number of points one has left in the kitty.
PK vs MI Dream11 Captain & Vice-Captain
Captain: KL Rahul and Kieron Pollard
Vice-Captain: Rohit Sharma and M Agarwal
